Welcome To my Website
My name is Deirdre Choo and I am a qualified counsellor with 18 years’ experience. I am an accredited and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their Code of Ethics.
It is important for you to trust the person you turn to for counselling and to feel safe enough to talk openly, in confidence, about your emotional difficulties. I hope you will find my website helpful to decide whether counselling is for you and, if you think that I may be able to help you, or if you have any further questions about how I work, please do contact me.
When you are feeling troubled you may not want to turn to family or friends, who may be busy with their own lives, may be part of the problem or may give you advice that might work for them but not for you. Counsellors are trained not to give advice or tell you what to do, but to listen to you and help you make sense of your feelings, to find your own meanings and solutions. Counselling provides a confidential, safe, supportive environment for you to explore your difficulties.
There are many reasons why people come for counselling. They may be going through a period of crisis or life change or want to change self-defeating patterns of behaviour. You may find counselling helpful if you are experiencing any of the following:
- Anxiety, loneliness or depression
- Suicidal feelings
- Low self-esteem
- Stress at home or at work
- Abuse and violence
- Sexual problems
- Marital or partnership problems
- Family problems
- Divorce or separation
- Feelings of rejection from a broken relationship or redundancy
- The pain of bereavement
- Living with chronic illness
- A loss of meaning in your life
