Having listened to people in distress over many years as a Samaritan and on a helpline for people with a chronic illness, I was keen to help in a more direct way and started training as a counsellor in 1998. My work as a counsellor has been in a Youth Counselling Service for young people aged 13-25, in a GP Counselling Service and in a Community Mental Health Team. My particular interest in relationships led me to train in 2003 in couple counselling at Relate and I have since worked at Relate centres in St Albans, Peterborough and Cambridge.
I have had considerable life experiences which have enriched my work as a counsellor: working in different countries (both East and West) in various organisations and in education, as a Montessori teacher and later teaching children with learning difficulties.
In my private practice, I see individuals and couples who self-refer and individuals referred from companies such as Aviva and Cross Country Trains, as well as from various Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) organisations. I offer brief or open-ended counselling, working in an integrative way, mainly following Person-centred and Psychodynamic approaches, but also using Family Systems, Solution Focussed and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy depending on your needs.
How we are related to when young establishes how we relate to others as adults and can be the root of our problems. By exploring your early experiences and making links to how you respond to others now, I aim to work with you to help you to understand yourself more fully, to discover different options and to find your own strengths to deal with dificulties in your life. I offer a safe, confidential and reliable place for you to talk freely about your problems without being judged.
I have helped people with a wide range of issues such as bereavement, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, stress, work problems, relationships, family difficulties, abuse (emotional, physical and sexual) and health. I have helped couples renew difficult relationships due to lack of communication, constant arguments, loss of sexual desire, affairs, etc; others to have a better outcome on separation/divorce.
Certificate in Counselling, University of Hertfordshire (1999)

I have further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Solution Focussed Brief Therapy and undertake Continuous Professional Development courses every year.
